Young Entrpreneur of the Year Competition

The ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ competition has been designed by a team in Young Lives ‘Young People’s Office’ – a project which involves young people in their local communities. Eight contestants will compete across a week of activities modelled on ‘The Apprentice’ BBC series, to win £1000 towards a business/enterprise idea, or a community project.

The competition Sponsored by BGL, will take place across the week of the 12th November to the 16th November, with two teams competing in challenges on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and two finalists competing for the prize fund on Thursday and Friday, with a launch and final event on Friday 16th of November at Peterborough Regional College. Guest judges throughout the competition are Mike Greene, from Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire, who is also offering the winner on going mentoring support, Karen Beckwith from the Peterborough Regional College, and Kamal Hyman, former Youth MP and young entrepreneur.

Challenge 1: Sales – teams will compete in a sales challenge in Serpentine Green Shopping Centre
Challenge 2: Treasure Hunt – Teams will be given a list of items and a budget, and must negotiate money off purchases and find all items in the list
Challenge 3: Marketing cook off – teams will create a cold dessert and pitch their product back to representatives from local supermarkets

All participants will take part in these challenges – without being ‘fired’ but two finalists will succeed through to a final challenge on Thursday and Friday. All applicants will have the opportunity to apply for an additional £500 each from our partners ‘Unltd’ offering if their business/project has a community focus in addition, but the proposal does not have to have a community focus to go for the £1000 prize.

This is open to anyone aged 16-25 in Peterborough. Activities will include selling items, marketing products, and team working. There will be experts on hand to help you and there are a number of other prizes along the way for teams that do well in individual challenges.
