When I was your age
When I was your age

Local housing association Cross Keys Homes has teamed up with Ormiston Bushfield Academy and Bushfield Theatre Company to help with an upcoming theatre production.

GCSE drama students visited Cross Keys Homes’ Rangefield Sheltered Scheme in Orton to compare life changes between the two generations, to help them to prepare and write their Easter school production.

Despite the age gap of up to 80 years, the students bonded with the residents over adventures and memories made in the Scouts, as well as timeless classics such as the movies and music of Elvis Presley, and BBC comedy Mrs Brown’s Boys.

The students and residents will eventually perform together in a theatre production based on the two generations’ experiences. The production titled ‘When I was your Age’ will take place in the spring at Ormiston Bushfield Academy.

Cross Keys Homes’ Chief Executive Claire Higgins said: “Cross Keys Homes aims to be an important force for good in communities, and it’s fantastic to see that the two generations from Ormiston Bushfield Academy and Cross Keys Homes are coming together to work on a joint project.

“It’s wonderful knowing that we are part of a project that allows students to excel, by working with Ormiston Bushfield Academy and Bushfield Theatre Company to help the students to prepare for their GCSEs”.

Mr Dennis Kirwan, Principal of Ormiston Bushfield Academy said: “Our students want to excel – not just in their schoolwork, but also as members of our community. We are very proud of this group and the project they are working on with the residents of Rangefield. We all look forward to seeing the performance of When I Was Your Age”.
