What is Walk EASY©?
Nene Park Trust is joining YMCA to proudly present WalkEasy© 2017. Join us for a challenge walking event to improve physical and mental wellbeing in the community. Money raised from the event will be shared jointly between YMCA for the provision of mental health services in schools and Nene Park Trust to maintain Ferry Meadows and conserve greenspace for the local community to enjoy. WalkEasy is a chance for the whole community to come together and ‘Be a Hero’ for a young person in the community who is suffering from mental health. YMCA has delivered charitable support and given hope to thousands of young people and families in this community for 160 years. We are supporting YMCA’s campaign on mental health by encouraging young people and their families to get outside and enjoy their local greenspace.

The Challenge!
The challenge is a simple one, complete as many laps of our beautiful course around Ferry Meadows as you can in a 12 hour period, taking on the challenges we have set as you go round. YMCA sees the young people they work with as heroes as they battle through their challenges in life to get to the other side. Many of the young people supported have or are facing difficult and often harrowing times and we all think that every one of them is a hero, taking their own life challenge head on. With this in mind we have decided this year’s theme should be all about your heroes. You may choose to dress up as Superman or Wonder Woman, or perhaps a sports star or film character inspires you, or maybe someone closer to home?

Walk Easy© may be a walking event, but don’t underestimate the challenge that lays ahead, like any physical challenge event it does need good preparation. The event hopes to replicate just how difficult life’s challenges can be and how much young people suffering with mental health problems struggle as they battle through. Don’t worry, YMCA and Nene Park Trust will be there with support and advice on our dedicated WalkEasy© website to help you prepare for the challenge leading up to the big day. We want to make sure that you enjoy your time in the great outdoors and reach the finish line in great shape with a big smile! Dogs are welcome to join the event either on a lead or under close control.

Why take part in WalkEASY©
Money raised from the event will be split equally between YMCA and Nene Park Trust. 50% of the money raised will go towards YMCA counselling provision in schools, whilst the remaining 50% will be spent by Nene Park Trust to maintain greenspace that promotes the benefits of physical activity on mental health and physical wellbeing. Taking part in the event will also help you to improve your own individual physical and mental wellbeing. WalkEasy is therefore a fantastic opportunity for you to ‘Feel Good and Do Good’. Every kilometre you complete and penny you fundraise will go towards changing lives of young people in your community who suffer with mental health problems. You can walk all over the challenge and ‘Be a Hero’ as an individual or as at team.
