Trademark Renewal Scam

Trademark Renewal Scam

A local business has received a letter from someone calling themselves the Intellectual Property Agency (IPA), asking businesses to renew their registered trademarks for a fee of around £1200. Please be aware this is a scam.

The IPA sends a document with details of the businesses trademark. It asks that you renew the trademark for ten years for a fee. The document looks very official and is personalised to include your trademark and associated numbers. The IPA also has a very official looking website, stating the business is registered in the Republic of Seychelles.

If you believe your trademark requires renewal please contact the Intellectual Property Office at www.ipo.gov.uk. The Intellectual Property Office is aware of this scam.
