Stakeholder event to discuss future investment in East Coast Mainline to be held in Peterborough

An event to discuss potential investment in the East Coast Mainline and gather evidence from local stakeholders to support a business case to Government and the rail industry, is to be held in Peterborough next month.

Local businesses and organisations that rely on the rail route are invited to attend the event to share their views and help to make the case for continued investment in the line and all passenger and freight services that use it.

The East Coast Mainline Authorities’ Consortium is gathering evidence about the importance of the route and its contribution to the economy to determine what is needed to make sure it can facilitate economic growth in the future.

The Consortium is working to ensure Government and the rail industry have a good understanding of the economic benefits of continuing to invest in the route and the services using it, including those that serve locations away from the East Coast Mainline itself. It is preparing a strategic business case that will set out the benefits and costs, and will include insights gathered from this stakeholder event.

Businesses based in Peterborough, the Greater Cambridge and Greater Peterborough Local Enterprise Partnership area and those located all the way down to London, are invited to attend this consultation event to voice their opinion. Similar events are also being held in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Doncaster.

Neil Darwin, chief executive of economic development company Opportunity Peterborough, said: “We’re pleased to be supporting this important event which will bring together businesses with an interest in the future of the East Coast Mainline, particularly those located in or near to Peterborough. The event will be invaluable for gathering intelligence that will help to shape the business case for future investment and we’d welcome input from as many organisations as possible.”

The event will take place from 8.30am – 11am on Wednesday 11th December at Opportunity Peterborough’s office at Stuart House, St John’s Street, Peterborough.
