Schoolboy Finalist in National Education Awards
Peterborough’s Mayor, Cllr June Stokes, warmly congratulated local schoolboy Crawford Johnston as it was announced that the youngster has won through to be a finalist at the UK’s largest Education Awards with a hearty, “Well done to Crawford”.
For the second year in a row fifth former Crawford Johnston, who lives in Eye Green, has won through to be a finalist in the national Education Investor Awards. (The awards in November will be hosted this year by the BBC’s Reeta Chakrabarti.) His Creative Writing Magic Money Cards, which help 9-15 year olds improve literacy ability and score high marks in exams, have been shortlisted in the important ‘Education Providers’ Category.
“It’s a really great feeling to be in the final six,” announced the teenager, who has been competing in the past against government advisers and experienced professors. “It will be a better feeling to win,” the youngster cheekily quips, delighted that he has won through against a greatly increased number of competitors in this year’s competition.
The focused young entrepreneur explains that his most important aim is to help young people across a range of ability levels improve their literacy skills. Business is benefitting as a result. A bulk order from a German school, which has run successful trials using his method, recently landed on his laptop. Norwegian teaching press have recently featured his success and his Singapore survey on trials with families and teachers in schools and at home brought exciting results. Tens of thousands of parents are also reading of his achievements when they were recommended to his idea by London Mums Magazine, “A genius idea”.
Universities have been in contact to discuss Crawford’s success and one Scottish University Vice Chancellor even invited him to talk to students about the impact his unique and legally protected idea is having on education – astonishingly, before Crawford has even taken his own GCSE exams. Famous authors are continuing to add their names in support  – and a former Prime Minister has emailed a special message of praise.
