Leading law firm Roythornes has published its first Sustainability Report, showcasing more than a decade of work to reduce its environmental impact.
The report, available on its website, highlights investments made at Roythornes six UK offices, alongside support for local farming businesses adapting to environmental change.
Speaking about the publication of the report, Ann Barrasso, Operations Director said:
“We have been on our sustainability journey for more than a decade and over that time have become much more aware of how we work as a business and how we can help clients in a world that faces many environmental challenges as the recent heatwave has shown. By bringing together the steps we have taken, we hope that other businesses will be inspired to take their own actions, however small, to improve their own sustainability.”
Having been involved in Agriculture and Farming for over 90 years, the firm has a strong appreciation of environmental issues and how new challenges are emerging for those who supply the country’s food. Ann added:
“Farmers and landowners are on the front line of the impact of climate change and we’re advising them on a wide range of solutions to issues they face including renewable energy generation, water management and landscape restoration. It’s a specialist area of work and we’re at the forefront of these issues, which will only increase.
The report covers a wide range of projects we’ve been working on, from small scale recycling schemes to larger investment projects such as solar panel installation and the provision of EV charging points at our offices. We aim to be carbon neutral by 2040 and fully appreciate it’s a tough target, but by taking a number of steps, we are confident we are making good progress. Our average carbon emissions are 1.67 tonnes of CO₂ per employee, compared with a sector average of 4.02 tonnes, demonstrating the impact of the steps we have taken so far.”
