Peterborough’s PR professionals set to engage students at career fair

The city’s leading public relations, marketing and communications agencies will club together to advise and inspire city students at Peterborough’s biggest Career Fair taking place at the Peterborough Embankment, on Thursday 18 July, 9.30am – 3.30pm.

Athene Communications, Media Matters and Metrix Marketing have joined forces to run a PR and communications corner at the event with the aim of advising students about the best ways to get a career in the competitive industry, and the skills required to become a modern PR guru.

At their stand, the team will also be running a press release competition to search out the city’s brightest young talents. The winners of the competition will have the opportunity for a day’s hands on experience working at a communications agency and also go on a Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) accredited training course.

The agencies’ consultants will be on hand throughout the day to answer any questions, provide more information about the profession and share some insider knowledge, tips and tricks with the students.

Richard Astle, Managing Director of Athene Communications, said: “It’s a great opportunity for the students to chat with some of the city’s best PR professionals about their options and the career paths available in marketing communications.”

Peter Corder, Managing Director of Media Matters, added: “We will all be bringing along some of our youngest recruits on the day, including graduates, who can give students firsthand advice and a real insight into how an agency works.”

Mike Holland, Managing Director of Metrix Marketing, commented: “Metrix Marketing is delighted to be taking part in the careers fair. The event will be really useful for young people planning their future careers. Peterborough has many successful PR and marketing communications professionals and it will be great to pass on some of our knowledge and experience to the next generation of communicators.”
