Peterborough in the spotlight at Smart City Expo

Representatives from economic development company Opportunity Peterborough attended a Smart City Expo in Barcelona last week to showcase Peterborough as one of the UK’s future cities.

Held between the 19th – 21st November, the event brought together over 3,000 delegates and more than 9,000 visitors from over 80 countries, and was an excellent opportunity to promote Peterborough to high-level business and city representatives from across the world. Valuable networking and exchange of best practice added to the experience, the ultimate aim of which was to attract inward investment to our growing city.

At a UK Trade & Investment Smart City Reception held on November 19th, the British Ambassador to Spain, Simon Manley, praised Peterborough’s credentials and highlighted the city as one of the four UK cities awarded with the “future city” title.

Steve Bowyer, programme director for Peterborough DNA and head of economic development at Opportunity Peterborough, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity to promote the city to an international audience, meet companies engaged in the smart cities agenda and showcase Peterborough as an attractive business destination.”

During the Expo Peterborough’s future city project website, www.peterboroughdna.com, was formally launched. The visual appeal of the website is combined with its ability to give Peterborough citizens and companies a voice. The conversation board presents an interactive platform for anybody keen to express their views and engage in conversation on the city’s future city programme, ‘Peterborough DNA’.
