We attended our first Opportunity Peterborough networking breakfast last Friday, 25th February 2022. They say that first impressions last don’t they, and we were incredibly impressed with the turnout and welcome we received. It was great to meet so many business leaders, truly passionate about what they do, and to make a few acquaintances, although the time slipped away very fast.
The networking breakfast coincided with the building regulations sign-off on a project that my son, George and I have been working on for the past 12-months. We have fitted out a soundproof film studio, reception/viewing area and editing suite in our detached triple garage, at our home in Glinton.
With the building work behind us, we can now look at growing our business. It is split into two areas; paid film work and speculative self produced ideas which we hope to sell.
The paid work falls into the following categories:-
Corporate filming; TV/social media advertisements, information & safety films and visual work for trade fairs
Showreel production; Writing and filming showreels for talent to assist them in securing auditions with casting directors
4K film production for filmmakers; We specialise in producing 4K footage exclusively for Pond5, the worlds leading content provider for film producers and broadcasters
Team building (1 & 2 day tv/film themed); We can accommodate up to six people and deliver an experience for them which will help them to bond with the people they work with, in a relaxed, safe and fun environment.
The unpaid work:-
Speculative film productions; We have a small and unpaid production team of 7, working on 2-3 pilot show ideas at any one time. We choose one of the ideas each year and turn it into a film which we enter into worldwide film festivals. We always have a series waiting in the background just in case we can entice a distributor. This is self funded, and our lack of funds does serious limit the number of festivals we can enter. Typically, the success rate is 5% of the number of entries. Last year we achieved 20%, and were finalists at two international festivals. This year we are currently at 33%, but the festival selection dates run until December 2022, so our success rate is sure to fluctuate. We have entered 28 festivals this year.
Thank you to all involved at Opportunity Peterborough and we hope to see you at the next breakfast.
Best wishes
Mick, George and the FP&FPL team.
