Opening of city centre art gallery brings cultural experience to Cathedral Square

Dawn Birch-JamesActive Interiors, a Peterborough based antiques company and Harriet’s Café Tearoom have come together to create an exciting new art gallery above the vintage style café in Cumbergate, Cathedral Square.

Despite the gallery having only opened this month, eight artists are already exhibiting their work and more are expected to join in the near future.
It’s hoped that the venture will not only help to support local artists, but Harriet’s tearoom too, as exhibitions will help to attract new customers.

Dawn Birch-James proprietor of Active Interiors said: “We are able to provide an excellent opportunity for the best of our artists to exhibit and sell their work, which also supports one of our quainter eating houses situated in an idyllic almshouse listed building. For very little cost and just the imagination and dedication of a few people, we believe we are on the road to enhancing the city centre by providing something cultural and artistic yet commercially viable.”

The gallery offers a range of products, including paintings, sculptures, prints, antique and vintage pieces.

The official VIP opening will be on Tuesday 7th June 2011, 5pm-8pm at Harriet’s Tearoom, 52-53 Cumbergate, Peterborough, PE1 1YR. A percentage of the ticket sales, as well as 10% of sales made during the evening will go to Sue Ryder and ASBAH.
