Members of the Peterborough Manufacturing Cluster visited Omega Foundry Machinery’s operations in Morley Way, Peterborough last week (29th August) as part of a networking and industry knowledge-sharing event. The visit was organised by Opportunity Peterborough, the city’s economic development company, and is the first of its kind for the newly established Peterborough Manufacturing Cluster.
Omega has been operating in Peterborough since 1984, following a management buyout from parent company Baker Perkins, and employs 124 people worldwide and 65 locally.
Hosted by Omega’s Managing Director and Financial Director, the event began with a short presentation outlining the company’s history from its formation through to its present day status of being a well established business providing state-of-the-art engineering, design, and manufacture of equipment for the ‘chemically bonded’ or ‘no-bake’ process.
Delegates were able to watch Omega staff working on high-tech 3D design followed by a tour of a distinctly clean workshop containing equipment ready for assembly and finally into the laboratory test area and stores.
Mark Lewis, managing director of Omega Foundry, said, “We were delighted to host the first event for the Peterborough Manufacturing Cluster. It was a great opportunity to make new contacts, share ideas and help to strengthen the local manufacturing sector.”
Neil Darwin, chief executive at Opportunity Peterborough, said, “Manufacturing is a long-standing, high performing sector in Peterborough so the recently established Peterborough Manufacturing Cluster is designed to support stakeholders to further develop the sector in Peterborough. This event is hopefully the first of many and is a forward leap in achieving local collaboration that will deliver new growth and jobs.”
