Eight-time Paralympic gold medallist, Jody Cundy CBE, has been announced as this year’s keynote speaker at the award event. Originally from Wisbech, Jody is a cyclist and former swimmer, having represented Great Britain at seven summer Paralympics.
Jody will be revealing more about the role that sport can play in delivering a more equal, diverse and inclusive society. He will be joined by the event’s host, Steve Jackson – Sport Journalist and Presenter at BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
Head of Business Development at Living Sport, Kelly Vickers, said: “We’re thrilled to be hosting the Activity in Action Awards to shine a light on the extraordinary accomplishments so many have achieved in what has been another challenging year adapting to and building back from Covid-19.
“At Living Sport, our focus is on helping those least likely to be active and we strive to tackle inequalities by removing barriers and championing inclusivity.
“It will be fantastic to have Jody join us as a keynote speaker. He has achieved so much over his career and is a true advocate for the positive role sport and physical activity can play within our communities and wider society.
“We’ve been holding these awards since 2007, including adapting to a virtual event in 2020, and can’t wait for another evening celebrating amazing achievements.”
The nomination process will be open until at midnight on Sunday 13th March 2022. This will then be followed by a public vote towards the end of March and a judging panel assessment.
Edwin Fey was the winner of the Community Volunteer Award in 2020. He received the accolade for his tremendous effort to introduce walking rugby at his sports club, March Bears Rugby Club.
Edwin said: “It was a great honour and a real surprise to win the award. Walking rugby was a very new concept and over the last two years it has gone from strength to strength. It brings together a great diversity of people. We have fathers and sons, mums and daughters, people with injuries, and people looking to build their fitness and lose some weight.
“By starting off with walking rugby they are not only getting active but improving their confidence and mental health. Good luck to Living Sport with this year’s event.”
