New homes approved for Midland Road, Peterborough

Plans to transform a city eyesore into a small housing development have been approved by Peterborough City Council’s planning and environment committee.

The application for the site on Midland Road was submitted by L&H Homes and Westleigh Developments. It will consist of 90 much needed high quality, new homes, and a green open space for the community.

A public consultation was held in September 2012 when overwhelming support was given for the proposals. 91% of those who responded felt it was the right development for the area.

The £11million scheme will transform the derelict and unsafe site for the benefit of residents and wider Peterborough. It will provide a housing mix to meet local needs including affordable homes.

Mel Baker, Project Manager for Longhurst Group is delighted that the plans have been approved: “We’d like to thank everyone who took the time to share their feedback on the plans with us. We are proud of our strong track record of delivering sustainable, high quality and well managed schemes and we look forward to creating an attractive new development for Peterborough.”

It is estimated the construction work will take 18 months, with the aim to be completed by the end of 2014.
