New extra care scheme opens its doors in Peterborough

Lapwing Apartments has opened its doors to welcome its first residents following completion of the £9 million new development in Orton Brimbles.

The 54 apartment extra care scheme, provided by Cross Keys Homes, is exclusively for over 55s providing community living with on-site care support, offering the perfect balance of independence and peace of mind.

With stylish one and two-bedroom apartments, along with fantastic communal facilities including a restaurant, library and community lounge, Lapwing Apartments builds on the success of Cross Keys Homes’ award winning Kingfisher Court complex in providing independent living with flexible support provision.

Mrs Crate was the first resident to move into Lapwing Apartments and said: “I was excited to move into my brand new home at Lapwing Apartments. I did a lot of research before I decided to move to ensure that I found a place where I could settle and call home.

“Lapwing Apartments has got everything I need – a fantastic outlook, a strong sense of community, and the added security of knowing everything is taken care of, making it on a whole an easy decision to move.”

Mr and Mrs Weavers, who moved in the following day, added: “We already feel really settled here at Lapwing Apartments. We were looking to live somewhere with a thriving community, social activities, and to be able to have extra care and support on hand to make life as easy as possible – Lapwing Apartments ticked all of the boxes and living here is just like a dream come true.”

With one in five of the population due to be aged over 65 within five years, the need for suitable housing has never been greater. Cross Keys Homes is committed to supporting older people to stay living independently, offering a range of solutions, including sheltered and extra care housing, and care support for people in their own homes.

Only 0.6 per cent of over 65s live in specialised accommodation, with a form of care support such as on site emergency care, which Lapwing Apartments has to offer.

Cross Keys Homes’ Chief Executive, Claire Higgins, said: “We are delighted to welcome our first few residents to Lapwing Apartments which promises to be a fantastic community whilst helping residents maintain their independence, living in their own home and at the same time offering the reassurance of any help and support they may need as their needs change.

“Retirement living homes which offer enough space and the ability for easy adaptations to be made, to cope with residents’ future care needs are desperately needed, and I am delighted that we have been able to provide this at Lapwing Apartments.

“It is also great to welcome the new Lapwing Team who I’m sure will go above and beyond to ensure all residents living here are welcomed with open arms, and receive all the help they need to settle into their new homes.”
