Local businessman Karl Hick to represent country in Poland

Karl Hick, CEO of the Larkfleet Group, is to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the European Indoor Championships in Poland on 23 March.

Karl, an experienced runner, will be taking part in these championships in Torun, Poland. The event brings together veteran athletes from all over Europe to compete in a variety of athletic events.

Karl has always had an interest in running and pursued athletics from a young age. Whilst at university he obtained national honours and ran for numerous organisations at home and abroad. He then gave up athletics for 20 years because of injuries.

However, when his best friend died a year ago he came out of retirement to run the London Marathon and has continued to run since.

Karl said: “I am honoured to be selected to run at this event and to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Training and running in the London Marathon inspired me to return to the sport and to run again at this level is wonderful.

“I am looking forward to the trip to Poland and to taking part in the championships.”

Karl ran the Virgin Money London Marathon last year with his eldest son Charlie to raise money for The Willow Foundation. The foundation offers ‘special days’ for 16 to 40 year olds with serious or life-threatening illnesses.

Karl and Charlie also participated in the ‘Tri for Life’ triathlon at Woburn Abbey in September last year.
