Leading UK chamber orchestra to makes its Peterborough debut at Arts Fest 2013

One of the UK’s leading chamber orchestras is to make its Peterborough debut as part of Arts Fest’s 2013’s Festival On Tour programme. Britten Sinfonia will be performing a concert at Thorpe Hall Hospice on 11th August, with 50% of the ticket sales being donated to the Sue Ryder Hospice appeal.

Set in the wonderful surroundings of Thorpe Hall, this open-air evening concert will delight and enthrall music lovers with spectacular performances filled with energy, innovation and excitement.

The concert opens with Grieg’s ever-popular Holberg Suite and then journeys by way of Elgar, Stravinsky, Bartok and Steve Reich through some of the most thrilling and evocative string music of the 20th century with Jacqueline Shave (Britten Sinfonia leader) and Miranda Dale (principal 2nd violin) performing Bach’s colourful and inventive Concerto for Two Violins.

‘There are few more thrilling things in British music than Britten Sinfonia on top form’.
Ivan Hewett, The Daily Telegraph.

In May 2013, Britten Sinfonia won the prestigious Ensemble Award the Royal Philharmonic Society [RPS] Music Award ceremony, the Oscars of live classical music in the United Kingdom with the orchestra being described as ‘an ensemble fit for the 21st Century’, and judges praising its ‘up for anything’ players.

And it’s not just the classical music industry that has been praising the work of Britten Sinfonia, with audiences equally thrilled by their unique and invigorating performances.

‘Always imaginative, innovative and with zest in everything they do.’
‘I love the concerts, commitment and wonderful programming – I feel each concert is an adventurous journey.’
‘Each concert is an exciting event and an introduction (for me) to new music alongside the old.’

Britten Sinfonia is one of the world’s most celebrated and pioneering ensembles and Vivacity Arts is thrilled that they will be performing in Peterborough as part of Arts Fest 2013 and raising money for such a worthwhile local cause.
