Larkfleet Group works on multi-million pound affordable housing scheme in Peterborough

Bourne based development and construction company Larkfleet Group  has begun work on a £6 million scheme to build 42 new affordable homes in the centre of Peterborough.

Peterborough City Council’s Planning and Environment Protection Committee approved the plans for the development and work is now underway on the site, located on land behind South View Road and Lincoln Road.

Larkfleet Group is working in partnership with Longhurst and Havelok Homes housing association, part of the Longhurst Group, on the affordable development that will include 16 two-bedroom houses, 8 three-bedroom houses and two blocks of 9 two-bedroom flats.

Thirty-three of the properties will be available at affordable rent and nine of the homes will be available through Homebuy Direct.

Properties on the development will be built to Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The high environmental standards highlight Larkfleet Group’s commitment to creating affordable, well-built and energy-efficient homes.
Work is due to be completed by the end of March 2011.

Karl Hick, managing director of Larkfleet Group, commented, “I am delighted that work has now begun on site. The development makes effective use of the land and will provide much needed affordable housing for local people. The homes are being constructed with an enhanced fabric utilising enhanced construction details, including mechanical ventilation and heat recovery. This environmentally friendly design will be a great asset to the properties.”

Mel Baker, project manager for Longhurst Group, commented, “This has been a lengthy and complex development to bring together. In partnership with Larkfleet Group, Peterborough City Council and the governments Homes Communities Agency, Longhurst will now be able to deliver a range of energy efficient and innovative homes to meet affordable housing needs in the area.”
