Smart Home Charge

Job Title: Video editor and content creator

Salary: DOE

Hours: Full Time

Do you want to be at the forefront of the electric car revolution? Do you want to work on exciting creative projects based in the world of electric cars? Do you want to direct, plan, film and edit compelling video and social media content to engage our audience?

As one of the leading UK installers of electric car charge points, Smart Home Charge is looking to expand its content and marketing team to help cement its position as the go-to place for electric car news, advice, reviews and more.

We are looking for a content creator with a focus on video editing and film production to work at our Peterborough head office.

Job Purpose

The electric car market is growing rapidly and so is our business and team along with it. But the prospect of shifting to an electric car can be a daunting one as new customers try to understand a new world of home charging, tethered and untethered charging units, and energy tariffs that pay you to use electricity.

So, we need someone to join our content team to help create an array of media to help demystify electric cars, de-bunk myths and de-jargon the jargon.

The role

You will work closely with our editor/marketing manager, who also fronts our YouTube channel.

Your job will focus on expanding our video output primarily, helping to increase our subscriber numbers and improve engagement.

You will be responsible for generating new video content ideas, planning and scheduling filming, as well as getting behind the camera for shoots, and editing. You will help take our video content to a new level as we look for new ways to give potential customers a glimpse into the world of electric cars.

There will also be the opportunity to film the latest electric cars and car charging products.

In addition to film production, you will also be responsible for developing and managing our social media content across Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

You will get the chance to work with some stunning images of the newest cars, using these to create excitement and a buzz about electric vehicles in general, but always looking for ways to link these back to our core business of home car charger installation.

Key responsibilities and required skills

  • Work closely with the editor/marketing manager to develop exciting new content idea
  • As a team, plan and schedule the YouTube content
  • Manage filming process from scripting, planning, filming through to editing and upload
  • Manage video and audio equipment, upgrading where necessary
  • Oversee social media platforms and content creation
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (AfterEffects, InDesign, Premiere, Audition, PhotoShop etc) or similar programs
  • Ability to manage multiple video projects
  • Work closely with editor on YouTube videos and able to give directions/tips to him while recording/presenting.
  • Happy to beaver away on your own (if on deadline for example!) or if we need you to go on a shoot alone.

About you

  • Ideally you will have had two years’ experience in either video production, graphic design, social media management or digital marketing – basically, you have some experience in managing creative content projects.
  • Deep understanding of YouTube, how it works, and you will also be an avid consumer of video/YouTube content yourself – whether that’s unboxing videos, car reviews, the Slow-Mo Guys, or… you get the idea. You will love video content and be up to date with the latest video trends.

  • You will have an eye for detail but also balance this with a need to meet deadlines. So, you will also need to be highly organised and able to work under pressure when it counts.

  • You will have several helpings of “creative magic” – we want someone who is able to generate their own ideas and add their own flair to our content output to help define our style and help us stand out.

  • You will love to learn and be quick at it. We want someone who loves to gain new skills and learn new information.

  • Ideally you will be a car nut or already familiar with the automotive world or electric cars. It’s not a deal-breaker but understanding of the subject matter (electric cars) will be really important going forwards – so we will be looking for someone eager to learn at the very least.

  • You’ll also be able to drive. This will help you get to our Peterborough-based head offices, but also to get to filming locations.

  • You will also have excellent verbal and written communication – those glorious social media posts won’t write themselves.
