OVERVIEW

Opportunity Peterborough [OP] is an economic development company, tasked with driving economic growth through engaging and supporting businesses, marketing for new investment and leading skills development for young people. Initially delivering these services in Peterborough, OP now also supports neighbouring authority areas with a similar remit.

Alongside these core activities, OP also delivers some specialist projects, including leading on smart and circular city initiatives, which support innovation and economic growth.

Peterborough is one of the UK’s fastest growing cities, and its neighbouring areas have similarly bold ambitions. This is an exciting time for the area as a whole and this role is an ideal opportunity for someone with vision and the desire and drive to make a difference.

 

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To drive job creation and the growth of the local economy by driving inward investment initiatives across the area, and bringing new employers to the area.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To drive inward investment activity, promoting the area as a vibrant and successful business location, proactively seeking and converting new investment leads and facilitating international and domestic companies to establish themselves.
  • To develop a strong and clear strategy and implementation plan for driving inward investment, identifying relevant target sectors and marketplaces, and routes to engagement.
  • To build positive and productive relationships with DIT, Local Enterprise Partnerships and other intermediaries to maximise lead generation.
  • To develop value propositions for key sectors and bespoke offers for investors.
  • To develop strong relationships with local stakeholders in order to deliver tailored, introductory tours for potential investors and to assist investors with integration.
  • To deliver these inward investment activities within Peterborough and on behalf of Fenland District Council and InvestSK (South Kesteven’s growth vehicle) working from March and Grantham as required.
  • To work with the OP and partner teams to fulfil expectations from commissioned work.
  • To formally represent OP and the area at conferences and trade fairs, and deliver presentations to a wide range of external partners.
  • To carry out duties as requested by OP’s Senior Team.

 

Person PROFILE

Essential:

  • Sound knowledge of the economic and business environment
  • Exceptional presentation skills, and the ability to frame a proposition that will secure new investment
  • Experience of account management and demonstrable success in winning new business within a B-2-B environment
  • Outgoing, proactive and creative approach to delivery
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present in public
  • Strong use of initiative and the responsibility to deliver
  • Proactive team player with excellent interpersonal skills

Desired:

  • Direct participation in inward investment campaigns.
  • Experience will be paramount, but qualifications and training in relevant field would be advantageous.
