OVERVIEW

Opportunity Peterborough (OP) is Peterborough’s economic development company. Our core responsibilities include engaging with local companies to support growth and development, attracting inward investment, and leading the local skills agenda to ensure the current and future talent pool is work-ready. We also deliver a number of specialist projects to boost the local economy and recently helped Peterborough become a World Smart City.

We are now working with South Kesteven District Council to help support the delivery of their ambitious growth aspirations. South Kesteven, incorporating the market towns of Grantham, Stamford, Bourne and The Deepings, has the strongest economic metrics and performance in the Greater Lincolnshire sub-region and together we will build on this success to deliver increased economic growth, opportunity and prosperity for its businesses and residents.

In order to achieve this we’re looking for exceptional, dynamic talent to join our economic development team to help us realise South Kesteven’s full potential.

 

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced economic development professional to support the growth of the local economy by supporting existing employers to realise their growth ambitions and bringing new employers to the district.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting businesses to achieve their growth aspirations through the provision of guidance and advice regarding grants and funding, skills, property, planning and infrastructure, and accessing specialist knowledge and expertise.
  • Building business networks, and organising events, in order to more effectively support businesses and to enable businesses to support each other.
  • Promotion of South Kesteven to attract and land inward investment as well as to support existing investors to meet their growth aspirations.
  • To provide economic intelligence and research for the production of an annual economic intelligence report as well as on an ad hoc basis for strategic stakeholders.
  • To build positive working relationships with partners and stakeholders, including local enterprise partnerships (LEPS), the county council, and government departments; to formally represent South Kesteven at events, conferences and trade fairs; and to deliver presentations to a wide range of external partners.
  • To engage with the wider SKDC and OP teams
  • To carry out duties as requested by OP’s Senior Team

 

Person PROFILE

Essential:

  • Sound knowledge of the economic and business environment, particularly in relation to local economic development
  • Experience of relationship management and rapport building with senior figures within a local authority/political environment 
  • Experience of inward investment activity and account management within a B-2-B environment.
  • Outgoing, proactive, creative and dynamic approach to delivery
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present in public
  • Strong use of personal initiative and the responsibility to deliver
  • Proactive team player with excellent interpersonal skills as well as being able to work alone.

 

Desired:

  • Experience will be paramount, but qualifications and training in relevant field would be advantageous.
