Gateway Peterborough opens for business

Gateway Peterborough, a key jobs growth site for the city, opens to the public today (Monday 24 February 2014). The launch will also see the site’s first unit being handed over to parcel delivery company DPD for occupation.

Roxhill Developments, who owns the site, has also confirmed that the Yearsley Group has completed the purchase of a 20 acre plot at Gateway Peterborough, which will create 300 jobs. When fully occupied the Gateway site will add up to an additional 8,000 jobs to support the city’s future growth.

The public opening, attended by a host of city leaders, follows the completion of the site’s major infrastructure including a £6million upgrade to the local electricity network, all utilities and the site’s main dual carriageway, Forli Strada.

Work is also soon set to begin on a £11million pound upgrade to the main link roads to the site, and an accompanying 5,350 home residential extension to the city. The work will result in a significant re-development of the A1139 Fletton Parkway and links to Junction 17 of the A1(M) which will enable the route to manage a substantial increase in traffic capacity.

Charles Blake, Development Director for Roxhill Developments, said: “Peterborough is showing real and consistent growth in its economy and the public opening of Gateway Peterborough shows how much further the city is set to grow in the coming years. Peterborough is now the fastest growing city in the UK and boasts the second highest growth in private sector employment which are real selling points for future occupiers.

“The major works to the Fletton Parkway and A1(M) will vastly increase the local traffic capacity for occupiers and this improvement, coupled with the future A14 upgrade, will make Gateway Peterborough one of the UK’s most well-connected distribution sites.

“These strongly favour the businesses already moving to Gateway Peterborough and we hope to be in a position to announce further occupiers in the near future.”

DPD will officially take possession of their new unit from Tuesday (25 February 2014).

Dwain McDonald, Chief Executive of DPD, said: “Gateway Peterborough is a fantastic development. Location and access are key issues for us and relocating to Gateway gives us all those benefits and the space to create a modern, purpose built parcel depot. We’ve worked closely with the developers Roxhill and we’re very proud to be the first company on the site. Our team will be working hard now to get everything ready for a smooth transition in the coming weeks.”
