Wendy Dominguez

“I was born in Surrey and have been interested in art since childhood, always fascinated by the many wonderful and different artists and exhibitions in London and close by.”

“I moved to Peterborough in Cambridgeshire in 1998 where I started drawing and painting. At first I joined a local adult education class and was lucky enough to have a great tutor who helped, encouraged and inspired me enormously by giving me the confidence to experiment and make mistakes. In 1999 I took a City and Guilds course in life drawing and sculpture at Stamford College, in Lincolnshire. Then in 2005, I decided to get serious and studied drawing at the ‘Princes Drawing School’ in Shoreditch, London while continuing with weekly life drawing classes in Stamford Arts Centre.I tested the waters by entering my paintings into a village exhibition successfully selling two paintings. I then joined the Open Studios event which led to other exhibitions including one in Laas, France for three months.”

“I moved to South Devon in the summer of 2012 and live in Teignmouth, close to the sea. Here as an artist I am spoilt by the many great and fascinating aspects of nature and an incredible purity of light. I try to paint every single day. In the last few years, I have been painting landscapes, seascapes, still life, animals, people and portraits. My paintings originate from my own ideas, concepts and inspirations. With my i-phone in my pocket , I am ready to catch pictures instantly , whether they are still or movements they will go into my large collection of other ideas captured over the years.
It may take years before I am ready with my ideas, but then it takes a short time to put them onto canvas. I use a combination of thick brushes and pallet knives to build up layers and textures of paint. My style is “fast and loose” and I use vibrant colours, which give life, movement and a sense of fun to my paintings. I use various media; oils, acrylic, charcoal, pastels and mixed media on canvas and board.”
