Food for thought: identifying circular opportunities within the food, drink & agri sector
Dates(s) - 30/11/2017 - 30/11/2017 10:00 - 12:00
Allia Future Business centre, London Road, Peterborough, PE2 8AN

Peterborough’s Circular Economy programme is an internationally recognised initiative, aiming to eliminate waste in the local economy and make the most of all the resources we have available locally. The programme is delivered in partnership by Peterborough City Council and Opportunity Peterborough, with the support of over 200 local organisations.

As part of the Circular Peterborough programme, we’re currently in the process of developing a Circular City Roadmap. The Roadmap will build on existing circular economy activities in the city and provide a clear action plan to achieve our ambition to be operating as a truly circular city by 2050.

To inform the development of the Roadmap we’re holding a series of workshops with local stakeholders, which is what we would like you to be involved in. This workshop will be aimed at identifying ‘circular’ opportunities and pilot projects in the food, drink & agri sector.

Topics discussed will include:

  • Reducing food waste across the value chain
  • Closing nutrient loops in agriculture
  • Un-tapped waste streams e.g., surplus heat energy, coffee grounds…
  • Packaging & its recyclability

Benefits of being involved in the workshop are likely to include:

  • Identifying opportunities for industrial symbiosis
  • Improving resource use efficiency and reducing costs
  • Minimising waste
  • Being at the forefront of our progressive circular economy initiative, and being seen as a sustainability leader
  • Contributing to a city-wide action plan.
We would also love for businesses that participate in the workshops to be part of the Roadmap implementation and benefit from the opportunities identified.

This workshop is suitable for any organisation within the food, drink & agri-sector from farmers, to retailers and restaurants, to manufacturers. It’s an open workshop where we want to hear from a diversity of actors across the value chain.

Please email katie.thomas@opportunitypeterborough.co.uk if you would like to attend the workshop by Friday 17th November.
