Build a Business
Dates(s) - 01/08/2017 - 01/08/2017 10:00 - 14:00
Peterborough Town Hall, Bridge Street, Peterborough, PE1 1HF

On the 1st of August The Skills Service, which is run by Opportunity Peterborough, will be supporting 60 students from Years 11 and 12 in Peterborough who have committed to the National Citizens Service (NCS) summer programme to build a hypothetical business plan.

Over the course of 4 hours, in group sizes of 6 – 8 young people, students will deliberate over, and finalise, a business plan for bringing a new product to market.

To help with the running of the event the Skills Service is looking for business volunteers from varying sectors and expertise to observe students team working communication and creativity and also sit as panel judges and listen to the groups final business presentations in this Dragons Den style challenge.

The Skills Service works with schools and young people across the city to help raise the aspirations of students locally and educate them on the breadth of available opportunities to them post education. It wants young people to not only leave school with a good standard of education, but also with the right attitude and employability skills for work. The service’s enterprise activities help to build some of these vital skills, such as teamworking, working to deadlines and communication skills.

PURPOSE:

Groups of students are tasked with designing a product, marketing it effectively and pitching it to their peers. This aims to encourage enterprise and entrepreneurship.

Expected outcomes:

Development of key skills in team building, problem solving, financial awareness, communication and presentations, as well as improved understanding of the need for innovation in the workplace.

Lunch will be provided.
