This one day course is geared particularly towards the needs of corporate personnel in the finance and sales/contract areas together with bank staff involved in international trade. It assumes a general knowledge of Documentary Credits and other international payment methods. The course is designed to give delegates a detailed knowledge of Letters of Credit.  Delegates will be made aware of the latest thinking among those charged with accepting documents presented under the Letter, enabling them to prepare appropriately. An introduction to the topics that will be covered under the Advanced Letters of Credit Course, including;

  • The different types of Letters of Credit, including revolving and standby letters of credit
  • Bonds and Guarantees and their role in international trade
  • Maximising use of Trade Finance to support business cash flow, maximise attainment of export contracts and evidence performance management

 

A Review of Best Practice in Letters of Credit

This section will review what best practice in Letters of Credit looks like, linking use of a Letter of Credit with the supply chain and working capital of a business. Practical examples of best practice are provided.

 

The Different Types of Letters of Credit and Guarantees used in International Trade

  • A look at the role of different types of Letters of Credit, including Revolving, Standby and Transferable Letters of Credit
  • A look at the role of different types of Bonds and Guarantees used in international trade, including Tender Bonds, Performance Bonds and Advanced Payment Guarantees

 

The Role of Trade Finance and how businesses can use it effectively

  • A look at what Trade Finance actually is and the circumstances in which Trade Finance arises. A detailed look takes place at the circumstances in which businesses require Trade Finance covering all elements of the supply chain.
  • Focus is provided on how trade finance supports cash flow, business growth and manages performance and payment risk.

 

Managing Financial, Payment and Currency Risk in Letters of Credit and Guarantees

This section will review in detail the different processes applicable to Letters of Credit and Bonds and Guarantees, and management of these risks within the supply chain

 

A full understanding is provided of the banking instruments which underpin trade finance and international trade, comprising;

  • The Bonds and Guarantees process
  • The Letter of Credit process
  • The Invoicing Financing process
  • Covering The Working Capital Gap

The review shall highlight the benefits of these instruments in facilitating successful international trade, along with the responsibilities of each party. The section shall focus on both short term and medium term export contracts

 

The Bank Perspective in Providing Trade Finance

A detailed look at a Bank’s trade finance products and the lending criteria, credit decisioning and associated costs relative to Trade Finance. The merits of trade finance in comparison with other forms of lending are discussed, as well as lending requirements under Basel regulations.

 

The Role of UK Export Finance

UK Export Finance plays a key role in supporting short and medium term export trade.This section will look at their role and how it is supportive of UK exporters, detailing the range of products and services provided by UK Export Finance.
