Event partnership supports local hospice charity

Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice is set to receive a cash boost after being chosen as the charity partner by Swift Run Events for not one but two brand new events in the regional calendar.

Participants in the Fun Colour Rush taking place on June 25 and those signing up for September’s Bubble 5K – both taking place at the East of England Arena in Peterborough – are being encouraged to raise sponsorship for the hospice.

Both events have already attracted entries from across the region and the numbers signed up are set to rise over the coming weeks. While there is no obligation for those taking part to raise money for the hospice which provides incredible care for patients and families from across the region, they are encouraged to fundraise as part of their challenge.

Event organiser Chris Dolan said: “We were very keen to work alongside a local charity so our event had real meaning to it. We knew it would be a popular event and having a charity partner gave us chance to encourage people who signed up to make a real difference in their local community.

We were really impressed by Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice – not just because they are the local hospice but because the whole team genuinely cares about everyone they come into contact with – patients, families and people like us who support their work.

“The hospice is very much about the small things that can make such a positive big difference not only to the patients but to the family and friends who are on the same journey when facing a tough time.”

Community fundraising officer Aimee Jepson said: “In recent years events like these – a fun twist on a sponsored walk or run – have started to hit the headlines. They’re great for families, groups of friends and workmates to take part in and they involve minimal training. Colour and bubble runs encourage people who wouldn’t have traditionally taken on this kind of charity challenge to get involved and that’s great news for us.

“We are really pleased to have been chosen as the charity partner by Swift Run Events. We’ve quickly established a solid partnership – they are using the hospice as the ‘pick up point’ for Colour Rush participants to get their packs in advance of the event and a number of our volunteers will be not only helping our fundraising team but working alongside the Swift Run events team providing logistical support on the day.”

The Colour Rush and Bubble Runs are set to raise thousands of pounds for incredible care at the Sue Ryder hospice in Longthorpe, Peterborough. It’s not too late to get involved. Visit the website www.sueryder.org/ThorpeColour
