Cross Keys Homes show they care as part of national campaign

Cross Keys Homes is featured in a new national campaign to highlight the many and varied ways in which housing associations care for their communities. Launched this week, the Placeshapers ‘We Care’ campaign brings together stories from around the country that illustrate the impact their members have on people’s lives on a daily basis.

Cross Keys Homes’ partnership with the National Childcare Trust features in the campaign. The ‘Birth and Beyond’ project sees local mothers undergo training to support other women who have just become parents. The volunteers are supported to complete a qualification while they help other mums adjust to life with a new child.

Volunteer with the project, Lisa Gore, said: “When I became pregnant, I think the attitude was that you just had to get on with it. I wasn’t aware of any support or anyone you could talk to about concerns. But actually, lots of parents do have worries and people still don’t know what support is available out there – and there’s a lot if you know where to find it.

“Not talking is when things start to fall apart so I think this project is a fantastic idea and it’s so simple. We’re just there to listen and tell people about what help they can get – everything from advice on breastfeeding to just being confident enough to go to a mother and baby group.”

Cross Keys Homes’ Chief Executive and Placeshapers board member, Claire Higgins, said: “We’re very proud to be Placeshapers and belong to a network of more than 100 community-focused housing associations like us.

“The We Care campaign is a great way to remind people that we do so much more to support our communities than simply providing homes. From offering volunteering and training opportunities to giving one-to-one support to the most vulnerable members of our community, Cross Keys Homes cares about the work that we do and the people we work with. The birth and beyond project is a really great example of this and it is one we are very proud of.”
