Cross Keys Homes provide nearly 400 of Peterborough’s 624 Lifetime Homes

Cross Keys Homes is proud to be working alongside Peterborough City Council to deliver more than half the accessible Lifetime Homes for the city.

The housing association has delivered nearly 400 out of 624 Lifetime Homes in the last six years alone. This helped to place Peterborough City Council as one of the ‘top ten councils’ in the country as reported recently in a survey by specialist housing provider Habinteg.

Lifetime Homes were introduced nationwide in 2011 due to concerns about the number of inaccessible homes available for the long term for large sections of the population. They meet a 16 point standard, resulting in accessible and easily adaptable homes. Each feature adds comfort and ease of access to the home. This includes having adaptable features and facilities that will assist with: raising young children, accommodating wheel chair users with ease, ensuring that walls can be fitted with grab rails in the bathroom, having a toilet on the entrance level with the capacity to be fitted with a shower if required, and having wider doorways as well as various other easy to access amenities.

Cross Keys Homes is determined to do all that it can to ensure that the right types of homes are being built in the city and beyond. This means in the right place, with the appropriate facilities and at the right price, which will in turn support their ambition to build homes and communities rather than just houses.

Claire Higgins, Cross Keys Homes’ Chief Executive, said: “We are very proud to be working alongside Peterborough City Council to ensure that we provide homes that are truly for a life time for local residents.”

Cross Keys Homes aim to deliver over 350 new affordable homes annually from 2017 to 2020 of which 84 will be Lifetime Homes here in Peterborough. Working proactively alongside Peterborough City Council will add to Peterborough’s reputation as a successful accessible homes area.
