Peterborough’s largest housing association is embarking on a major development programme to provide many more new affordable homes for the eastern region.

Thanks to Cross Keys Homes’ (CKH) development strategy, which is backed by secure funding with a budget of £382m set aside, the housing association has capacity to build 2,500 new homes in the next five years.

CKH has already built over 3,400 new homes to date and has 18 development projects in contract currently, with a further seven new development schemes due to be contracted this month (February).

CKH CEO, Claire Higgins, said: “As a housing provider with a social heart, we focus on providing quality homes that people can afford to live in. We are determined to do all we can to help ease the housing crisis in Cambridgeshire and neighbouring counties by accelerating the delivery of new affordable homes. This is an exciting new threshold in our development programme and we are really thrilled to have got to this stage.”

CKH Director of New Business Development, Gary Norman (pictured), added: “We continue to be on the lookout for new land opportunities to maximise the number of affordable homes we’re building, to really tackle the shortage of appropriately designed accommodation and to meet the ever-changing needs of a diverse and growing population.

“In the last couple of months alone, we have contracted on schemes which will see 133 new affordable homes delivered within the eastern region and are committed to ensuring our strong development pipeline continues moving forward.”

Last year (2021), the housing association built 264 new homes following a disruptive year with the pandemic, Brexit and material shortages to contain with. This year (2022) however, they’re predicting to build 478, which is an 81% increase on last year’s output.
