Show Racism the Red Card is currently running a programme of regional teacher training conferences in association with the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Department for Councils and Local Government (DCLG) and will be delivering our East of England conference at Peterborough United Football Club on Friday 12th July.
The training conferences are aimed at teachers with key stage 3/4/5 responsibilities, as well as all those who work with young people in an education capacity. At past conferences we have had attendees from local councils and the police force among others.
The training focuses on classroom based strategies and activities for safely discussing and educating about Racism, as well as countering the recruitment process of the English Defence League (EDL) who are targeting young people outside of their schools and on social media channels including Facebook and Twitter.
The day will feature a keynote speech from an expert on the far right, and specifically the EDL, in addition to a number of interactive workshops delivered by the educational team at Show Racism the Red Card on topics including Educating against Racism and Prejudice and Escalation of Racism; Ideas for Intervention.
Below are web reports on the Yorkshire and West Midland’s conferences which will provide you with more information about the format of the day
