Cambridgeshire businesses cut carbon and save money
Cambridgeshire businesses cut carbon and save money

This Big Energy Saving Week, learn how small and medium sized businesses in Cambridgeshire have been taking advantage of fully funded energy efficiency reviews in order to identify the cost and carbon savings that can be made through becoming more energy efficient, thanks to funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)

The energy efficiency reviews are provided by the Business Energy Efficiency programme (BEE), run by the charity Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT), and support businesses by identifying priority projects that reduce costs, cut carbon and create a more sustainable business model.

Over the past two years, BEE has supported over 250 businesses, identifying over £1.4million of potential cost savings and carbon savings in excess of 6,500 tonnes.

If you wish to undertake any of the recommendations for projects such as LED lighting; Heating & Cooling; Insulation; Solar PV & Battery Storage, the team at BEE can help you to identify funding sources.    In fact, it is highly likely that you will need to have had an energy audit prior to any funding application, therefore it makes good economic sense to secure your free energy audit whilst still available.

Somersham based graphene device developer Paragraf Ltd had a fully-funded energy efficiency review from BEECP, and subsequently secured a grant towards implementing LED lighting and energy efficient heating.

Catherine Cranton, Finance & Business Administration Manager at Paragraf explained,  “The BEE grant has enabled us to replace old heating and lighting with modern energy efficient alternatives. This has not only helped us reduce our energy bills but also created a more pleasant working environment for our staff.”

Visits are available on a first come-first served basis, and Cambridgeshire businesses are urged to reserve their slot now as BEE have just 30 fully funded energy reviews still available.   Visits need to be undertaken by February 2020.
