Cambridge Cleantech Alert – DECC offers £19m fund to cleantech entrepreneurs

DECC has been announced the Second phase of the Energy Entrepreneurs Fund to support developers of energy efficiency, storage and low-carbon generation technologies

The fund is designed to provide support to early stage small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with innovative green technology ideas, which needed funding to demonstrate and commercialise their designs.

Projects are now being invited to apply for up to £1m of funding with the first deadline for applications expiring on 12 July. DECC said that subject to the quality and number of applications, it will look to launch new calls for applications every four to six months until the funding is all allocated.

Under the rules for funding, any projects that receive support will have to aim to have their work completed by March 2015.

The successful applicants will also be able to demonstrate that their technology can have an impact on the UK’s carbon targets for 2020 or 2050, show that they have a technically viable proposition backed by a “coherent development plan”, and provide evidence that their proposal represents value for money.
