Athene continues commitment to local charities

Three Peterborough charities have benefited from Athene Communications’ annual charity donation that helps to support local causes.

Staff at the Peterborough-based PR and Communications agency selected Peterborough Soup Kitchen; Peterborough & District Riding for the Disabled, and Hampton Navy Under 9’s Football Club as the groups to receive the funds.

Managing director of Athene Communications, Richard Astle, said: “Athene Communications donate to chosen charities every year and I am pleased that we have been able to continue to do this for the past twelve months. We hope these funds will make real a difference to these worthwhile charities.”

The Peterborough Soup Kitchen is located at the Millfield Community Centre and provides food for homeless and disadvantaged people from Peterborough and surrounding areas. They currently have around 150 volunteers.

Ian Davies, the chairman of Peterborough Soup Kitchen, said: “Thank you to all at Athene Communications for thinking of the Soup Kitchen. We have recently refurbished our kitchen and this donation will go towards purchasing a new hot water heater, which will make clean-up quicker for our volunteers, enabling them to spend more time with our vulnerable clients.”

The Peterborough & District Riding for the Disabled run weekly sessions for children from three local special schools.

Deborah Pennell, from the charity, said “We are thrilled to have been nominated as one of Athene’s chosen charities; this is a wonderful way to start our fundraising for 2014.”

Hampton Navy Under 9’s Football Club have been running for two years and are currently based in Orton.

The team’s manager, Grant McClean, said “This will mean a great deal to the team. This donation will help pay for football equipment required for next year, and help members of the team with their development.”
