Law firm turns ‘green influencer’ at roundtable event

Leading law firm Roythornes became green champions last week by hosting a Sustainability Roundtable for their key suppliers.

The event, which was held at their Spalding offices bought together some of the firm’s main suppliers to share the sustainability journey and successes Roythornes has had so far, together with best practice and ideas up and down their supply chain.

The suppliers represented provided the law firm with a range of services from document storage to website hosting.  The day started with presentations from Roythornes’ Operations Director Ann Barrasso, who talked about the firm’s decade long journey and the many projects undertaken from waste recycling schemes to solar panels on offices and EV charging point installation.  This was followed by Robert Allison from Auditel, who gave a bigger picture update about the importance of accurate measurement as part of a carbon reduction programme.

Speaking about the event, Ann Barrasso said:

“It was a great event – to have our suppliers in the room talking about issues that could help them on their sustainability programmes was inspirational.  Whilst some of the firms were very advanced in their carbon accounting, some we are the start of their journey and there was so much to learn within the group.  As we have been running our projects for over ten years, we felt that we had a lot to offer in terms of influencing others.  We hope to hold further events in the future and look forward to welcoming more firms, whether they are suppliers or not, to learn more about how they can reduce their impact on the planet.”

The firm, who specialise in advising farmers and landowners has made great strides in their sustainability projects – in the 7 years between 2018 and 2025 they reduced their paper usage by 59% and their electricity usage by 25%, whilst increasing headcount by 48% and office space by 32%.

Ann continued:

“Sustainability is now at the heart of everything we do and the purchasing decisions we make, and this, backed up by a great enthusiasm from all of our staff, gives us a terrific momentum for further improvements in the coming years.”
