Recommendations for Peterborough and Cambridgeshire’s future economic policies to be discussed at next Bondholder Breakfast

Peterborough business leaders and policy decision makers have the chance to discuss the economic policy recommendations being made to local government in the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Independent Economic Review (CPIER) at the next Opportunity Peterborough Bondholder Breakfast on the morning of 31 October 2018.

The findings of the review, and those particularly relevant to Peterborough, will be presented by Sir David Arculus, a member of the Commission, and Daniel Timms, a research consultant that also worked on the report from Metro Dynamics. CPIER was commissioned by the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority but the research and analysis was compiled independently.

Undertaken by an independent group of economic experts, the CPIER has identified 14 key recommendations for future policy decisions to help the region overcome economic challenges and optimise growth opportunities. It hopes to influence the local industrial strategy and policy decisions of local government.

The Opportunity Peterborough Breakfast event will also give delegates the chance to take part in a Q&A and panel discussion about the report’s findings with Sir David Arculus and Daniel Timms, who will be joined by local organisations for their take on the recommendations.

Cambridgeshire & Peterborough already contribute significantly to the UK economy but the region has a target to double its GVA over the next 25 years.

The recommendations were highly praised at Westminster on 9 October and now the Commission is holding local events across the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area so its findings can more directly support local decision makers.

Tom Hennessy, chief executive of Opportunity Peterborough said, “The scope of CPIER makes it an invaluable resource for decision makers in local government and within the business community. We’re proud to be supporting the commission in bringing the findings to Peterborough companies – it’s crucial to have an open and productive dialogue between local government and businesses.

“With these recommendations now published it’s time for Peterborough and Cambridgeshire to take action. I would urge all businesses to continue to engage with Opportunity Peterborough and the local authority so we can work towards a common goal that results in inclusive growth. Whether you agree with the recommendations or feel there are opportunities that could be explored even further, please get in touch.”

The Bondholder Breakfast event will take place on 31 October 2018, 7.30am – 9.00am at KingsGate Conference Centre ahead of the Peterborough B2B, the city’s longest running B2B exhibition. Over 600 visitors are expected and the free seminar schedule includes a headline talk from Facebook, a series of workshops from Digital People in Peterborough, and also covering video creation and developing millennial leaders from the Institute of Directors.

To book a place, delegates’ organisations must be members of the Opportunity Peterborough Bondholder Network. For joining details please click here
