Nominations now open for this year’s Living Sport Virtual Sports Awards 2020

Nominations are now officially open for the Living Sport Virtual Sports Awards 2020, celebrating sporting achievements on and off the pitch across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

The Living Sport Sports Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of talented sports people and the significant contribution made by coaches and volunteers.

It also showcases the organisations and clubs who are using sport and physical activity to make a positive impact on people’s lives across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

This year an emphasis is to celebrate ‘lockdown heroes’ who have gone above and beyond in recent months, showing compassion, generosity and creativity within the sport and physical activity community.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s awards are being held virtually and will be live-streamed on the Living Sport Facebook page on Thursday 3rd December at 7pm.

Chief Executive at Living Sport, Simon Fairhall, said: “In a year defined by unprecedented challenges, we feel it is even more important to shine a light on the incredible accomplishments many have achieved in such difficult circumstances.

“To ensure this year’s event can go ahead safely, we will be holding a virtual ceremony, hosted by a well-known local personality, to recognise the outstanding contributions made by people and organisations. Please nominate that person or group you know deserves to be recognised.”

The charity, which aims to improve the health, happiness and wellbeing of the people of Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, has adapted the award categories to reflect the little face-to-face sport and physical activity taking place this year.

An array of awards such as Coach of the Year, Community Club of the Year and Community Volunteer of the Year are currently open for nominations.

Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 9th October and for the first year ever, there will be an online public vote in addition to the judging panel assessment. The public vote will open on Friday 16th October.

Previous Living Sport Sports Awards winners include household names like Olympic gymnast Louis Smith, Paralympic-athlete Jonnie Peacock and cricketer Tom Westley.
