- How we can help
- Bondholder Network
Stress costs UK businesses £4.4 billion per year (2016/17 ill health costs UK economy £9.7Bn Stress is 46% HSE), with this equating to roughly 12% of all UK ill-health related absence the issue is becoming more recognised by businesses and is on every HR and Management Professionals agenda. Employers lose an average of 45% of their staff sickness days to stress which can mean reduced productivity and disruption.
The ONE Group have partnered with Julian Hall (Calm People) and Hilary McLellan (Indigo Talent Development) to bring you this latest working session on reducing stress by increasing emotional intelligence (EI) within your organisation. This is designed to give you a clear understanding of what EI is (and isn’t!) as well as a providing a tool kit, from which to draw when dealing with stress on a day to day basis.
Each speaker will focus on….
Julian Hall will be looking in more detail at the 5 stress pillars that he has previously touched on before, including a coaching process. What they mean and when the stress becomes unhealthy.
Hilary McLellan will be looking at 5 of the EI competencies which help people develop their own EI but also align closely to the stress pillars. She will go through what they can mean and how they can support in times of stress and too much pressure.
• Self Confidence
• Self Actualisation
• Self Control
The workshop will be going through specific/practical ideas and helping you to gain a better self and team awareness, as well as some tools and insight on how best to support teams.
Julian Hall, Calm People

Julian has an MBA from Nottingham Business School, has trained with the British Association of Anger Management and is an experienced and qualified practitioner of established coaching tools such as Myers Briggs.
Julian’s work encompasses everything from delivering workshops on how to identify and deal with anger, to helping individuals to combat stress by improving their emotional resilience. Julian chose to set up Calm People because he wanted to continue to bring emotional resilience, emotional control and core personal development into the mainstream and make it more accessible. This comes from his central belief that everyone would benefit from this work on some level.
Julian is also a founder and director of Calm Execs and My Wellbeing Choices which take his development materials and other specialists to both a niche and a mass market.
Hilary McLellan, Indigo
The first half of Hilary’s career evolved over 25 years; originally as a single mum she worked part time jobs including shorthand typing and cleaning then over time became FCIPD qualified and worked in Senior HR roles both in the private and public sectors.
After leading a number of re-organisations she found herself more interested in the psychology of organisations (the ‘How’) than the processes of employment (the ‘What’), and reflects that this interest may have been driven as much by her own personal journey as the journey of others who she met and worked with through grievance, disciplinary, redundancy and recruitment processes of her day job.
Her passion for understanding how the brain and body can work to motivate, energise and create resilience in us all; led her to obtain an MSc in Organisational Behaviour, from City University, London and become a qualified Exec and Team Coach. And so, the second half of her career began!
Over the past 5 years Hilary has worked with large corporate clients, SMEs and individuals to develop EI in areas such as:
• identifying and assessing potential
• measuring development goals for talent pools and succession plans
• recruiting to roles that require high levels of emotional labour
• developing high performing teams
• improving engagement through self-awareness and behavioural change
• being the best of yourself and finding your potential!
