East of England Arena welcomes hybrid drive-in show as lockdown ends

The East of England Arena and Events Centre (EEAEC) has announced it will be hosting The Drive-In Winter Experience 2020,  December 20-21, 2020, following in the footsteps of previous, successful drive-in entertainments at the venue earlier this year. Films will be screened on a 40ft projection screen and audio will be streamed to cars via FM radio.

Jason Lunn, venue director, EEAEC, said, “The drive-in format has shown itself to be very popular and flexible during the pandemic, and allows us to open the venue to visitors when almost every other show has had to be cancelled or postponed. It’s vital to try and keep the venue open and active, and not just from an economic perspective, but to remind visitors and audiences that we are still here, and providing entertainment and enjoyment to the region.”

The Drive-in Winter Experience comprises two shows a day featuring a family-friendly seasonal film screening, quizzes and comedy. Food orders will be taken from guests in their cars and delivered to them from on-site food concessions. The show will be cash-free, cars will be parked at safe distances with a strict 2-metre spaced queue and there will be toilet facilities with clear safety messaging that all follows government protocols.

Lunn concluded, “Drive-in Cinema, the organiser of this show,, has refined and tailored this format during the pandemic, and it has been a great success everywhere it has landed. Our previous experience has been that these shows sell out in days, which tells us that audiences are itching to get back to live shows and entertainment the moment that becomes possible. This must be good news for the industry.”
