Cross Keys Homes provide 27 new affordable homes
Cross Keys Homes provide 27 new affordable homes

Twenty-seven new affordable homes have been provided near Wisbech, Cambridgeshire thanks to assistive grant funding of over £1.1m by Homes England.

The development known as Grove Gardens in Elm has provided 13 affordable rented homes and 14 shared ownership properties and is part of Cross Keys Homes (CKH) expansion plans.

The site has been completed in partnership with Burmor Construction and with support from Fenland District Council, together helping to provide much-needed new affordable homes specifically for local people.

It is one of a number of sites that CKH has developed with Burmor Construction in recent months.

CKH’s Chief Executive, Claire Higgins, said: “With the high cost of home ownership, in many cases standstill salaries, and many of those who are in private rented properties struggling to pay for their home, truly affordable homes are needed more than ever before, and we are committed to ensuring we do all that we can to help. This scheme will hopefully be one of many we complete in Fenland over the coming years.”

CKH has a long-term strategic development plan for a large new affordable house building programme that is supported by a strong business plan and funding, and is committed to investing wisely in the region to develop the much needed local housing provision required. This site forms just one of many sites that CKH is developing for the eastern region.

Patrick Burke, Burmor Construction Director, added: “We are pleased to have completed another quality housing project in partnership with our client Cross Keys Homes, and hope the residents will enjoy living in the new properties we have built.

“The 27 new homes on this site were built using Modern Methods of Construction, which allowed us to hand the project over three months ahead of schedule, as well as providing high quality, thermally efficient homes for the new residents.”

To celebrate the completion of works on the development site, resident Matthew Fisher who recently moved into one of the 3-bedroom shared ownership homes with his partner Sam Franklin, had a bottle of champagne and bouquet of flowers presented to him by CKH Director of New Business Development Gary Norman, together with Andy Gipp Director of Corporate Services and New Business Project Manager, Gemma Reeves, Fenland District Council’s Head of Housing and Neighbourhood Services, Dan Horn, Burmor Construction Director, Patrick Burke, Leader of Fenland District Council and Portfolio Holder for Finance, Councillor Chris Boden and Portfolio Holder for Housing, Councillor Samantha Hoy.

Councillor Hoy said: “These new homes are an excellent example of partnership working to provide more affordable homes which are much-needed within our district. Our work with housing partners is a vital part of our approach to increasing housing supply. There continues to be a great demand for local affordable homes, so opportunities to attract government funding to deliver new homes for shared ownership are welcomed.

“I am sure the new residents in Elm will enjoy their new homes for years to come and I look forward to seeing more developments like this in the coming years.”

Matthew, added: “We absolutely love living here. It’s so peaceful and quiet and it’s great to finally be able to have a home of our own together thanks to Cross Keys Homes’ shared ownership scheme. We couldn’t be more happier with our new home.”
