The green accreditation scheme Investors in the Environment (iiE) is calling for organisations to aim for achieving ‘Zero Waste to landfill’ this September.

iiE is encouraging everyone to get involved with national Zero Waste Week, which runs from Monday 2^nd – Friday 6^th September 2019. Zero Waste Week is a fantastic way to involve staff in thinking up creative ways to make long-lasting behaviour changes.

“Zero Waste Week is a great opportunity for your business to look at its impact on the global waste problem, including ocean plastic and litter,” explains iiE’s April Sotomayor.

“Despite its name, you don’t have to go completely Zero Waste –the idea is simply to try and think about your environmental actions and reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill. This might be through reducing what is purchased in the first place, buying products that are readily recyclable, reusing and recycling.”

Zero Waste Week is all about helping the environment, whilst saving you money and getting people engaged. You can tape office bins shut for a week, get a compost bin, stop printing for one day, or eat home-cooked food to reduce packaging…there are plenty of ways to get involved!

In addition to offering helpful tips and downloadable resources for iiE members, the scheme is also running a Viridor Waste to Energy Plant Tour on Tuesday 3^rd September, and a Zero Waste Week Litter Pick on Thursday 5^th September.
