Larkfleet Homes helps Spalding remember veterans’ sacrifice

The Larkfleet Homes Community Fund has donated £1,001 to help design and build a memorial to commemorate those who served their country and were killed in the Second World War.

There is currently no WWII memorial in Spalding. Veterans have had to resort to using the First World War Lutyens Memorial for military parades.

Rodney Grocock, chairman of the Spalding WWII Memorial, the charity set up to deliver the new war memorial, said: “Local armed forces veterans are frustrated that there is no Second World War memorial in Spalding.

“The new memorial will go in the Peace Garden at Ayscoughfee Hall and Museum. It will be the focal point for Remembrance Sunday and the VJ (Victory in Japan) Day remembrance event held annually in August.

“Thousands of local people attend and pay their respects to brave men and women who gave their lives for the freedom we enjoy today.”

Commenting on the donation Larkfleet Homes CEO Karl Hick said: “Veterans deserve all our thoughts as we owe them a lot. We are very pleased to be helping such a noble cause.

“The sacrifices made by so many need to be remembered and this memorial will play a vital role in ensuring that this continues.”

The Larkfleet Homes Community Fund supports charitable projects that enhance or develop a local community. The fund is part of a commitment to supporting the existing communities within which Larkfleet Homes and Allison Homes, both part of The Larkfleet Group of Companies, are developing new homes.
