Meet…The Peterborough School

What is The Peterborough School and who are your customers?
The Peterborough School is the city’s only independent school and nursery educating boys and girls from 6 weeks to 18 years. Until 2010, the senior school taught girls only, but now admits boys into Years 7 and 12, which means the School will be fully co-educational by 2014.

The School has a commitment to remaining small and friendly, offering an unrivalled effective and supportive environment where each individual is valued and encouraged to achieve their best. The majority of current students come from Peterborough and its immediate surroundings and most staff also live locally.

What’s the biggest challenge you face in today’s economy?
The School works very hard to ensure it provides excellent value for money whilst still delivering outstanding education. The School’s management team works as closely as possible with parents who face financial difficulties owing to pressures from the current economic climate and the governing body is committed to supporting families whose children would benefit from an education here through an increased number of bursaries.

What’s your greatest achievement?
This year we celebrated our best ever A-Level results with a 100% pass rate for the fourth year running. Every year, our pupils achieve outstanding examination results, which statistics show typically exceed those which they could have expected if they had been educated elsewhere. Our greatest achievement is when every student leaves having experienced a complete education, which equips them with the skills and qualifications needed to enjoy a successful career and a fulfilled personal life.

What makes being in Peterborough so good?
Peterborough’s excellent transport links allow access to many areas of educational interest, including The Peak District for Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, the historical castles and cathedrals of Rockingham and Lincoln and easy transport to theatres in London.

Closer to home, the School benefits from the many facilities offered right here on its doorstep; additional rugby and hockey pitches, the rowing lake, the athletics arena, local theatres and swimming pools.

The School often enjoys working with local businesses to provide Independent Learning Projects for a large number of children, for example tracking the build of City Hospital and investigating the industries in the Fens and the Wash.
