Environment Capital
We’re proud to be the UK’s Home of Environment Capital, delivering truly sustainable growth and creating a cleaner, greener, healthier and more vibrant Peterborough for the future.
With over 350 eco-businesses based in the city, we’re home to the largest environmental goods and services sector in Britain.
In October 2010, Peterborough City Council signalled its commitment to the environment by adopting a major Environment Capital policy. The first of its kind in the country, the policy ensures all future decisions taken by the Council have the environment right at their core.
Green innovation plays an important role in business in Peterborough and the city has recently launched a pioneering online 3D visualisation tool. The Peterborough Model will enable the city to visualise its environmental performance, helping the Council and other key stakeholders to make more informed decisions. Learn all about The Peterborough Model by watching a short film here.
In addition to Peterborough’s public and private sectors leading the way to improving the city’s environment, our voluntary and charity organisations are committed too. Green charity Peterborough Environment City Trust is delivering a range of eco-projects – from setting up a bespoke environmental accreditation scheme for businesses to kick starting a green learning revolution in the city through the Greeniversity scheme.
With so much environmental activity taking place across the city, Peterborough’s green credentials are proving an attractive draw for businesses and residents alike.
Support
Investors in the Environment is a not for profit environmental accreditation scheme designed to help businesses save money and reduce their impact on the environment. The scheme provides all the help and support needed to get businesses started and ensures you get recognition for your green efforts. There are three levels of accreditation: Bronze, Silver and Green, which means there is something to suit every business whether you’re just starting out on your ‘green journey’ or if you already have an environmental management system (EMS) in place. Each level is designed to provide a manageable route to greater efficiency, cost savings and a more environmentally friendly outlook.
