The Royal Mail’s new business barometer survey shows that Peterborough has the fastest-growing
population of businesses in the UK, with a 3.78 per cent increase between April
and September 2006.
Figures for VAT registrations are running at 50 per cent above de-registrations,
demonstrating a level of business growth higher than regional and national averages.
Peterborough has more people of working age as a percentage of the population than
either the East of England or the UK as a whole.
There is a daily inflow of people coming to work in the city – reflected in the
fact that the city’s ‘job density’ (the ratio of jobs to working age population)
is 1.03.
