Opportunity
Peterborough is an
urban regeneration
company (URC)
which was
established in
April 2005.
Our organisation
URCs are companies approved by the government to drive the regeneration and redevelopment
of key towns, cities and regions in the UK. They are independent bodies that combine
both public and private support.
One of the reasons for Opportunity Peterborough being established as the UK’s first
‘growth’ URC was to bring a private sector approach to the development of the city.
A majority of the directors on our board therefore come
from the local business community which is helping us to drive the regeneration
of the city’s economy.
We also have senior level representation from our founding partners - Peterborough City Council, the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) and English Partnerships. The government’s department
for Communities
and Local Government sends an observer to board meetings.
We have an experienced and dynamic management team led by acting chief executive
Steve Compton. We are able to call upon the expertise of partner organisations and
we have access to both public and private sector funds to pump prime the city’s
growth and regeneration.
Our operational funding from start-up to the end of 2007/08 is £2.7 million, not
including developments and projects.
