Opportunity
Peterborough is
managing a
£1 billion-pound
transformation of
our city to benefit
every part of
the community.
Our activities
We are ensuring that development is truly sustainable, so that whatever we do now
will not have an adverse impact on future generations. Issues such as minimising
use of natural resources, protecting the environment, creating a balanced economy
and building vibrant communities are all central to our planning.
We are leading a partnership with
Peterborough City Council, the
East of England Development Agency (EEDA), Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and the Government’s Department for Communities and Local Government
to drive the sustainable growth of the city.
We are working alongside other partner organisations such as Greater Peterborough Partnership to deliver
the city’s community strategy and meet Peterborough’s objective
of becoming the nation’s ‘environment capital’.
We are bringing forward plans for substantial development in the city centre and
elsewhere. These are based on a comprehensive Integrated
Growth Study which shows how Peterborough can grow sustainably to be not
just bigger but also better.
We aim to ensure that future development meets the needs of every group and community
in the city and that everybody benefits from the growth. We will manage development
to provide sustainable transport systems and energy and water resources, protect
our natural environment and enhance the quality of life for everyone who lives or
works here.
We are working to create more and better jobs by focusing on the city’s existing
economic strengths and by working with local companies to see what support and assistance
they require to develop their businesses. At the same time, we are seeking to encourage
other companies to move into Peterborough and share our growth.
We are supporting this with promotional activity to raise the profile of the city,
its companies and its developments.
We will make sure Peterborough continues to be a premier location for business and
industry as well as an attractive place to live, work or play. We will help to increase
the prosperity of the city's people, improve the number of high quality jobs and
training opportunities, broaden housing choice and improve the city’s sporting,
cultural and leisure facilities.
