| BUSINESSES INVITED TO CYCLE RACE LAUNCH |
Businesses across Peterborough have been invited to the official launch of the city’s Tour Series cycle race.
People can find out more about how they can get involved in the city centre race, including sponsorship opportunities.
Professional cyclists and team members will be on hand to answer questions and show off their bikes and equipment at the launch, organised by Opportunity Peterborough, on April 7 at the Park Inn, Bourges Boulevard.
Supported by Peterborough City Council and Opportunity Peterborough, Tour Series Peterborough is expected to attract 10,000 into the centre of the city to watch Olympic and World Championship cyclists compete around a 1.4km circuit at speeds of up to 30mph.
Lasting about an hour, the race starts at 7pm on Thursday June 4 and will be filmed for ITV4, showcasing Peterborough’s attractions to about three million TV viewers.
Trevor Gibson, Environment Capital director at Opportunity Peterborough, said: “The launch provides a fantastic opportunity for businesses to meet the organisers of this important sporting event and see how they might support it or use it as a focus for celebrating business successes.
“It also provides a stage for us to showcase the city, the Peterborough brand, and our environment credentials to a national audience.”
The event falls in the middle of Green Festival week and a series of associated events are being planned, including local cycle club races, team mascots and children’s races to create a carnival atmosphere.
Attendance at the launch event is by invitation only.
Notes to editors Peterborough was chosen as one of 10 cities across the UK to host the Tour Series, which is being staged by Sweetspot, organisers of the Tour of Britain and UK stages of the Tour de France.
Ten teams of five cyclists will do about 30 laps of a circuit which starts outside the Town Hall passes through Cathedral Square, up Church Street and Cowgate and left at the roundabout down Bourges Boulevard and left into Bridge Street again. Some roads will be closed including Cowgate and one side of Bourges Boulevard while the race is underway and vehicles will not be able to access the area inside the race route.
