| The Old Still Arts Hub Re-Opens |
Peterborough Arts, Theatre and Heritage at The Old Still.
The continued success of The Old Still before Christmas as an arts venue has ensured that that it will remain open until the end of March 2010. The original launch of The Old Still in October 2009 provided studio and gallery space that enabled local artists to work together and showcase their work.
The Old still re-opened on the 19th January 2010 through the strong partnership working of Peterborough City Council Arts and Heritage, Opportunity Peterborough and the Queensgate Centre. The partnership has worked together to bring culture, shopping and leisure opportunities to the very heart of the city, showcasing Peterborough’s cultural offering.
As well as the artists in residence, there will be a number of events over the next few months incorporating performances, poetry and networking opportunities to create a fresh new artistic hub in the city. There will also be a changing ‘shopfront display’ celebrating Peterborough’s rich heritage and giving information about what’s happening on the arts front in and around Peterborough, which can be viewed any time in Westgate Arcade.
Commenting on the re-opening Steve Bowyer, director of strategic growth for Opportunity Peterborough said;
“We aim to make Peterborough a place where people have the opportunity to experience cultural and artistic endeavours: it is vital for the city centre’s rejuvenation that we develop its cultural offering and diversify its attractions. Not only are we able to showcase the arts, but we have brought into use an un-used city centre premises which will also benefit the wider economy”.
Commenting on the re-opening Councillor Matthew Lee said;
“It is excellent news for the city that we have been able to extend the opening of The Old Still until the end of March and I would encourage people to visit. Building on its success before Christmas we will now be working with many varied artists and groups to create an exciting programme for the public both in The Old Still and other venues around the city. Peterborough has already shown a genuine interest in exposing local artistic talent and showcasing vibrant and unique pieces of work. The considerable effort by all the partners has culminated in a fantastic venue for showcasing local art”.
